In the nits’ nightmare, the number one must-have weapon is the lice comb, a formidable tool with long, thin, tight teeth. The electric version destroys the creepy crawlers by emitting a micro-charge before evicting them. The manual version doesn’t kill the scalp squatters, it just removes them. This means that you have to exterminate the pediculus humanus capitis non-gratae before collecting them with the comb.
Within the lice-lethal but human-friendly and eco-friendly range of products, we give you the lemon.
Indian grannies knew about it all along, but two recent studies confirm the absolute efficiency of this magic citrus. Scientist squeezed fresh lemons purchased from a local market. The juice was allowed to settle for 10 minutes at room temperature (22-25˚C) before being filtered through a metallic thieve. Holding this precious liquid with a firm hand, they ruthlessly attacked lice and nits. Twenty-five minutes later, with absolute scientific rigour and extreme happiness, they observed that citrus lemon juice, super-powerful pediculicide, killed 100 % of the capillary targets.
All parasites, totally shrivelled in the process, had perished.
To complete the eradication process, you need a conditioner, preferably white in order to see the mortal remains of the objectionable occupiers. A Belgium study showed that it dislodged nits as radically as any dedicated over the counter chemical treatment.
Start your attack by squeezing 500 g lemons.
Let the juice stand for 10 minutes before filtering.
With all the necessary usual precautions, slowly pour on the invaded victim’s hair.
Gently massage to help spread out.
Cover with a shower cap or a plastic bag and a towel on top.
Leave on for 30 minutes, remove the shower cap and rinse.
Take a generous amount of conditioner, distribute evenly then start combing very carefully to make sure no unwanted visitors are left in-situ.
Shampoo and rinse.
Repeat the whole process a week later. To discourage any further raids, dab a drop of essential oil of lavender behind the ears every morning.
